Agenda
- Drink Delicious Beer, Eat Tasty Pizza
Need Business Cards for NetworkOps, lets not use moo.com!
Schedule and start to plan MeshPlayDay
NodeGrandCentral on Mississippi - status? install when?
- 27 dBi 802.11a antennas ordered (can use a 2.4GHz omni for the time being)
- AC enclosure ordered
possibly should buy a PoE switch like this one
- Russell's thumbnail proposal for remaining gear:
- limitation on backhaul is that more tenuous links need directional antennas, which means point-to-point, which means one radio per destination, so:
- at grand central, eventually use both metrix radios for backhaul, and a cisco or maybe a meraki (60 dBm radio) for local coverage
put another node with high-gain antenna at SelfEnhancementInc, and somewhere in between put the last metrix on a residential roof with an 11a omni backhaul visible from GrandCentralBaking, SelfEnhancementInc and MississippiCommons, providing link redundancy and good neighborhood coverage.
- use MGP specific funds as available, backfill with PTP general funds as necessary.
- limitation on backhaul is that more tenuous links need directional antennas, which means point-to-point, which means one radio per destination, so:
- Ramifications of wireless backhaul on:
- captive portal
- load balancing
- Report on Communitecture outage, repair.
- Possible new node near SE 21st and Tibbetts (possibly involving a 60-ft ham radio tower)
- Discussion of United Way counterterrorism compliance declaration
- Report on status of vandalism case
- Down Nodes
- Discuss Monthly Agenda
Notes
Russell serves DonPark with the subpoena from the DA's office.
Russell hands DonPark the United Way forms with instructions to sign/send-in ASAP.
Members of the BoardOfDirectors present unanimously decided to authorize CalebPhillips to order some moo.com cards for ops, and also to look into some normal business cards for various ops members.
- Russell describes the status of various hardware orders, as well as the outlines of a plan for the remaining gear for mississippi
Discussed again the plan for FieldDay2006 on October 28th. DonPark thinks TomHiggins will not be available, so we'll need another car and way to mount a mast to handle the CrownPoint location. AlexisTurner and TamarackBirchWheeles were mentioned, and their absence was noted. Russell asks what publicity we were going to generate and how to no one in particular. No one in particular provided a detailed plan in response.
Regarding MeshPlayDay, almost nothing was discussed, except that maybe we should buy some merkaki minis to use. Don complains about roofnet and it's natting of local cells from one another.
Russell complains to DonPark about the lack of initial followup on the NodeLabarre outage.
- Russell reports on the Communitecture outage
Brief discussion of nodes that have decided to drop PTP status and whether we should feel badly about them. I think mostly we decided that we didn't feel badly about them. Notably Backspace. They had a reason to switch and that's okay. DonPark notices that the one thing they lose is a sense that the service is there for everyone to use, not just their employees and customers.
- Russell rants about how hard it is to contact Keegan, including the recent history of Node567 and the replacement harddisk. Darrin reminds Russell about AIM.
Russell describes the vandalism case and its status to DarrinEden
Caleb volunteers to talk about WifiDog at the monthly. DonPark indicates the city manager for the MetroFi project has backed out. DonPark asks volunteers from the last monthly meeting to give status reports on their tasks.
