RussellSenior proposes bbq meeting, contacting users/responders
- Press outreach seems important
Target habitual users, but call them "Frequent Fliers"
- Way to Pay-for-ISP at node discussion:
Idea (CalebPhillips): users must pay ($2 -> pay what you can) until cost of monthly internet is met, rest is free. Internet is cut if not paid. For this to work, PTP must front current month and users pay for last month
- Ideas about making splash page more effective:
- Remove TOS
- Make donate button far more prominant
- s/Free/Non-Profit/g: better association, implies that it might go away if people don't support it
Patch to do the above: https://personaltelco.net/wiki/WeeklyMeeting20130717?action=AttachFile&do=view&target=splash.patch (full html: https://personaltelco.net/wiki/WeeklyMeeting20130717?action=AttachFile&do=view&target=splash.html)
- Long discussion about how to provide a service better/more-useful-than free internet, which is an assumed de-facto today (and gets us no respect)
- Ways to create financially self-sustaining nodes (whose communities pay for their internet access)
- Usage tiers ("security", bandwidth, etc.), split evenly between users with subscription
- Ways to create "value-adds" to acquire/incentive node hosts
