I want my communications utility owned and operated as a co-op by the local users.

My long term interests in wireless have been inspired by
[http://www.microship.com/bike/ Nomadic Research Labs],
reading too much sci-fi, such as "A Deepness in the Sky" by Vernor Vinge,
"Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson and the Free Software Foundation's GNU project.

Something I came across recently addresses a problem with
[http://www.l4ka.org/projects/persistence/ non-continous power].
Sounds useful when my future solar powered recumbent temporarily runs out of juice. ;-)

I am also building a [http://alain.klotz.free.fr/audela/ Cookbook 245 CCD Camera]
for my 8 inch Meade
Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. I am working towards having a remote
controlled astronomy lab in the rural mid-west US.
Wireless links from the house to the top of
the hill half a mile away as well as wind and solar power storage are
necessary. Eventually I would like to contribute to amateur
[http://members.cts.com/cafe/m/mais/Spectroscopy.htm spectroscopy]
measurements.
