Most all the low-end cards were using AdmTek for a good while, though RealTek now is certainly a direct competitor. Both these chipsets have semi-supported binary drivers floating around the internet for the Linux kernel.

Update 5/13/2003 Recently a source driver (with "ADM_Prv.o" -- presumably a binary core) has appeared on the AdmTek site. This is good news. If you have tested this, please add comments below. -- JerrittCollord

All,

This is my announcement of my release of a *beta* NetBSD driver for 802.11b NICs based on the ADMtek ADM8211. I have committed it to the NetBSD source repository. The driver is called 'atw'. It works with both Cardbus and PCI cards. "
