[http://aprs.rutgers.edu/ APRS] is used by Hams with [http://www.packetradio.com/ Packet Radio]. It plots in real-time your current position on map that can be accessed on the web. It's used for plotting the position of vehicles, the status of weather, radio direction finding and much much more. It envolves mapping, GPS tracking, packet radio, etc. It is a VERY interesting facit of packet radio and has much to offer most everyone including non-hams that just want to watch over the internet.

I don't know anything about APRS but the implications seem significant for wireless networks. Imagine runners with a PocketPC being tracked with real-time telemetry on heart beats and respiration. I smell a $500 Nike shoe/watch!

A van equipped with a [http://www.swe-dish.com mobile, 2-way satellite dish], live MPEG-4 video and 2-way videoconferencing from anywhere is now affordable by individuals. Broadband can't happen fast enough for me. Schools, libraries and media outlets like newspapers, radio and television could expand their boundries, state-wide.
