It looks like a good start to me, but I am worried about creating any links on that page that are not from the local gateway machine... Remember until they login they don't have any access to the Internet. I almost think that once they login they should be forced to another page that explains more about the node with a button to click to go where they originally specified. What do other people think? --MichaelCodanti  It looks like a good start to me, but I am worried about creating any links on that page that are not from the local gateway machine... You are absolutely right. It also isn't very good for handhelds. I've worked on it a bit more and hopefully it is closer to something we can use now. No outside links until they are all logged in. Still pretty rudimentary, though: http://www.yourpalbill.com/ptp/nodesplash/ Anyone else? --BillHolmstrom   You are absolutely right. It also isn't very good for handhelds.    I like the look and feel of the pages. If you need help getting the logos transformed so that the backgrounds are transparent let me know. --LonnieWormley

 * A mailto: link or a web form on the page would be exceedingly useful to have people report problems of a broken gateway. This happened to me just last week (Jan2002) - I could DHPC and ping the gateway but i couldnt not authenticate, even though nocat was in open mode. That way operators could login and look at the problem right away. It would also help count how many people are having trouble, especially if the gateway is working for some people. --DonPark

This page is for sharing ideas for a "splash page" for our nodes, a web page that browsers will encounter when they first connect to a node.

Here's a preliminary idea: http://www.yourpalbill.com/ptp/nodesplash/ --BillHolmstrom

  • It looks like a good start to me, but I am worried about creating any links on that page that are not from the local gateway machine... Remember until they login they don't have any access to the Internet. I almost think that once they login they should be forced to another page that explains more about the node with a button to click to go where they originally specified. What do other people think? --MichaelCodanti

    • You are absolutely right. It also isn't very good for handhelds. I've worked on it a bit more and hopefully it is closer to something we can use now. No outside links until they are all logged in. Still pretty rudimentary, though: http://www.yourpalbill.com/ptp/nodesplash/ Anyone else? --BillHolmstrom

      • I like the look and feel of the pages. If you need help getting the logos transformed so that the backgrounds are transparent let me know. --LonnieWormley

  • I'm still debating in my head if it's a good idea but one of my listed features for NoCatAuth is the ability to allow certain links out. This would allow us to link to sponsors sites, an AUP and other goodness. It does however increase the possibilities of DOS attacks etc. I'm thinking it's a good thing but I could be swayed either way. --AdamShand
