   * Does someone need to go down with a toner and trace the line for them? :-)

Here is the place to list all of the places in and around Portland that you think would be good places to try and get unwired. It would be good to list other pertinent information about the location.BR --MichaelCodanti

Done Deals!

  • Lucky Lab
    • They have shown some interest, but haven't followed through yet.
    • Update 1/2/02 - Agreed to unwire!
    • Update 3/5/02 - Still no action, newest is that managers have no idea where their one qualified phone line is actually located.
      • Does someone need to go down with a toner and trace the line for them? :-)

  • Pioneer Square, including coverage for the Starbucks that is there
    • Node officially announced 2/14/02
  • Hawthorne International Hostelling
    • NigelBallard's working on this; apparently they have DSL installed or on the way, and next weekend (3/9/02), a crack team of technicians will install the hardware.

Currently Pursued

  • Rose & Raindrop

    • They have shown some interest, but haven't followed through yet, and are worried about holes and stuff since it is a historic building.
  • Red & Black Cafe on Division

    • Already has FreeGeek PCs and some kind (?) of internet connection

    • Have two FreeGeek boxen with dialup (ouch) connections. They want DSL and have a jar for donations. I bet if we covered the difference between their dialup and DSL and provided equipment that they'd unwire.

  • Billy Reed's on MLK
    • JohnBartley said: They already have internet access, have a nice bar and summer patio area and William C. Reed is very cyber-aware.

  • FreeGeek

    • They already have a donated DSL connection and have said that they will run a node as soon as someone donates the hardware.
  • Snake and Weasel
    • ChristianSeppa said: I talked with the owner Dan and he said he'd be very interested in putting in wireless for the masses at his cafe/pub, and they've already got dsl

  • Common Grounds
    • I spoke w/ the owner of Common Grounds Michelle. I explained the setup and I left contact info. I am not sure how she recieved the request. There might be an ideological difference or a lack of desire to pay for DSL and ISP services. I offered to loan her an access point and a computer. I'll follow up later after some time has passed.

Need to be Pursued

  • The Cricket Cafe
    • Currently has an old phone based internet access thingy and might be interested.
  • Common Grounds
    • People with laptops hang out here.
  • Sam's Billiards
    • Can almost get a signal from node wiki:NodeId:79, maybe a repeater would do?

  • Lloyd Center (Food Court)
  • Mojo's, SE 28th and Stark.
  • Powell's Books (Technical store and/or coffee shop in the main store)
  • Peet's Coffee/Tea on SW Broadway (small)
  • Peet's Coffee/Tea on NE Broadway (small)
  • Papaccino's
  • True Brew coffe shop on SE Milwaukie
    • The owners are very community oriented but haven't been approached yet and it is right by Brooklyn park (clean shot out their front window).
  • Public libraries
  • McCall's restaurant on the bank of the Willamette River

    • Might be able to cover part of Waterfront Park
  • South Park Blocks (AlHooton is looking in to possibilities here)

  • Burnside Bean 24th and E Burnside
    • I will be pursuing after setting up my directional and switching to Easy Street

Tried and Failed

  • Stumptown
    • NigelBallard has approached them and they don't appear to be interested
