Roll call: almost everybody has been using the nodes!

Location Location Location Location......even if it is not real accessible, each node on the map represents possibility for linking nodes to nodes. So get 'em up and note your location on the node map!

Initial run of 10 free-geek boxen successful and new links are being forged and developed. If you have a great location, but need experience and equipment, post to the list and make your voice heard. Free Geek is busy during the day, so bug them off-hours.

Captive portals discussed by Adam. Forced portals. End user must accept terms and conditions to gain access to (inter)network resources. An open portal, otherwise called an active portal, is in use at the Pioneer Square node, and is the model for personal telco nodes. No Cat is a version of an active portal.

Dependencies: 2.4 kernel, perl, iptables. It is it's own webserver, no need to edit your Apache configuration file.

Erik W. discussed his forays and efforts to develop MetaCat. MetaCat is to reproduce the functionality of NoCat auth written in C to reduce the overhead required with Perl. Advantage lies in it's smaller footprint.

The upshot is to fit everything on a Musenki box with 4MB of Flash and 32 Mb of RAM. This would allow Overview of firewall rules and IP tables and some of the finer points of authorization, idle timeouts. The addition of MAC address tied to IP a possibility for future development.

Work needing done:

#1 Keeping data current on the maps server has a huge influence on how people perceive PTP. this involves a code cleanup for it to be in releasable form.

#2 Log into the map server and give it a sanity check. send a polite email to individual who has submitted the node info.

#3 We're starting to receive donations, cough up the gear if you're not using it!

#4 Unemployed people are our friends. If you have some time to donate to projects, and have some useful skills using Linux, and networking savvy.

PDX Wireless site has given their ok to
