Maintenance and System Log
2007-12-28: Installed a second soekris device outdoors near the front of the building, with coverage up and down Milwaukie Avenue. --RussellSenior
2007-07-20: Have recently reconfigured this node with Metrix Pyramid 1.0b5 and wifidog. Business owner also interested in adding an additional rooftop device. --RussellSenior
2006-10-13: Responded to a message forwarded to ops@lists.personaltelco.net (tardily) by DonPark. Node has been non-functional for a couple months. Internal network had been renumbered during a VOIP installation, breaking the static IP on the soekris. I got a serial console on the device, reset the root password, and set about patching things up. One tricky bit, /etc/resolv.conf is a symbolic link into /var, which gets unpacked from /etc/var.tgz during bootup, so to fix up /etc/resolv.conf I unpacked the tarball, modified var/local/etc/resolv.conf and tar'd it back up again. Did a final reboot-and-test and it was working when I left.
Notes
- The soekris 4511 is in an indoor case, on the floor of a storage area next to a ventilation duct. The pigtail comes out the back of the case, connects to LMR400 that takes the signal into the ventilation duct and up to the roof.
