Agenda
- Pick location for next weekly
Review ToDoList2025 for any updates/notes
- Node notes:
NodeAlhambra -- ap5 seems to be back up, yay!
NodeGooseHollow -- try replacing the ap3 MR24 to see if that fixes the ethernet link resets.
- New node 47th and Tibbetts?
- Q1700W experiments -- Russell built a test PTP node with the device and was surprised to find that the 6GHz band did not work at first. It turns out that the wifi alliance, the body that sets wifi certification standards, only allows WPA3 Strict and so-called "Enhanced Open" on the 6GHz band, which means encryption=sae or encryption=owe. Russell tried out OWE and found that Ubuntu 24.04 supports it but Ubuntu 18.04 (which he happens to have installed for legacy builds) doesn't. Likely, any modern device is going to support OWE, but legacy devices probably won't, which isn't a concern for the 6GHz band, because legacy devices won't support it either. But, this experience might suggest that we should start mixing in OWE in our node builds.
- Hardware disposal, Russell's basement is in "trim down mode". We have a surplus of:
- Ubiquiti M gear
- 100Mbps PoE injectors
- Metrix net4826 boxes
- a box of random antennas
- the 60GHz point-to-point link hardware discuss disposal options
