Agenda
- Pick location for next weekly
Review ToDoList2025 for any updates/notes
- Node notes:
NodePatch -- attempt was made to recover the APU and E8450, but was unsuccessful as the house has been cleared by movers. chances of recovering the devices are probably remote at this stage.
NodeBuffaloGap -- power outage took out the node for several hours, though the internet connection, gateway and ap1 held on for about an hour due to backup power supply
NodeEdison -- after a recent brief outage, noticed that cacti's "tree" for the node had ap1 from a different node, ap1.edison.ptp was not being monitored, so that has been added to cacti and the NodeEdison tree.
NodeMississippi -- metrix-west did not come back after the previous network outage.
- Russell had another meeting with Utopia Fiber on Friday, learned some additional things
- Russell had an IRC chat with Books, from Chicago, former node host in Eastmoreland in the PTP early days. Books was looking for advice about starting up a PTP style node, starting with a hackerspace on the north side.
- Going nuclear with LLM bots?

Notes
- OSUOSL - able to allocate racks in state datacenter, will be moving cables to free network switches, server moves in a few weeks.
Russell has been syncing to Yellow, then will will be looking into MoinMoin upgrade.
- Node notes:
NodePatch - Could've been there in a box, but likely went elsewhere. Likely not getting it back.
NodeBuffaloGap - Power outage took 'em out. All came back up without intervention.
NodeEdison - Did not get sent "up" emails. ap1 was associated in cacti with some other node, Russell fixed.
NodeMississippi - Metrix West did not come back, but link was flaky prior to outage (and weak over the Summers). Obstruction or gear failure. Needs a visit (Russell will stop by tomorrow). Will also contact Capitol Property Mgmt. people about gear on Ballroom roof.
- Russell discussion with Jerry at Utopia, all ethernet gear in fibre huts rather than vendor dependent optic connections.
- 80% underground, 20% overhead, depends on the city and terrain. All construction farmed out.
- Steve Bos - sales guy, would love to fly to Portland.
- Offer to do various models of consulting to running network.
- Using 10Gb router with 1Gb and 1.5Gb ports, rebadged as Utopia fibre boxes, Nokia and Genesis.
- More ISPs than they need, open bidding process every 2 years. Want providers focused on customer service.
- Also in Bozeman and Twin Falls, rest in Salt Lake basin, some coming in California.
- Oregon Connections - Second day was mostly AI, Microsoft guy was an AI advocate
- Property easements are given for electricity on poles, but not required to be given for communication cabling on same poles.
- Jennifer Hill Hart - Citizen Utility Board contact on OBAC - almost 2 months later got back to Russell's query about advancing an agenda for customers.
- Question about Federal policy on directing money to Starlink infrastructure (in regard to Oregon earmark). Guaranteeing capacity in area and 2 sets of customer equipment.
- Unknown what guarantee is regarding (non-)performance.
- "Books" in Chicago wants to set up a PTP-style network. At a hackerspace (Pumpingstation1.org).
- Russell suggested talking to Europeans about their operations.
Historical orgs, hardware, FooCab, legality.
Wiki spam - large number of IPs, block China, Brasil, Vietnam getting blocked. CCIDR (python script consolidate blocks). Maybe MoinMoin ACLs https://moinmo.in/HelpOnAccessControlLists
Next week's meeting, possibly at NodeGooseHollow - may be FuTel interest in connecting to phone booth there.
Russell will be talking with Parks guy next week and will ask about connectivity to NodeArborLodge.
Russell meeting with JenniferRedmond tomorrow.
