Notes
DonPark says we need to take advantage of the MetroFi shutdown.
- We'll try to get a press release ready to drop upon the announcement.
MikeRogoway interviewed MichaelWeinberg at length recently in anticipation of such a story, so we should have a place in it.
RussellSenior shows off the reflashed FON Router. Says there are more on the way.
RussellSenior met with DorettaSchrock, who was on the MetroFi selection committee, and is interested in doing a network in Kenton.
RussellSenior got the Meraki source code by contacting them and asking.
OnwardOregon would like to do something around municipal fiber, here are some points for their e-mail:
- Municipal Fiber is the best way to maintain options and free-as-in-freedom networks.
- Ubiquitous Municipal Fiber is the best way to address the digital divide.
- A network that was open to multiple providers would allow for competition and more options for consumers.
- Current broadband options are significantly limited in the bandwidth they can provide. Portland is quickly being eclipsed in broadband speeds.
- Much faster than wireless.
- You can guarantee that fiber will work, whereas you can't tell with wireless if a certain location is covered.
- Independence and Ashland both have it. We should too!
