The Portland Wireless Summit Meeting, June 2001

This is a meeting of various WirelessCommunity groups from all over the North America, it was instigated by MattPeterson of BaWug. Currently we have confirmed guests from British Columbia, Seattle, Oregon, California and New York. For more information please contact AdamShand.
The meeting is in two parts.
Saturday, June 23rd - starting at 12 noon (Email AdamShand for Location)
This is a small meeting of the leaders of the various wireless groups, MattPeterson is working on the agenda. The main topic of the meeting is ways to improve collaboration between the various groups. Possible specific topics include:
- Creation of a group identity.
- Bulk purchasing possibilities, donated and sponsered hardware from Vendors
Feasibility ([dis]advantages) of incorporation as a NonProfit.
- Mapping software
[Note: that seating is limited for this and you need to contact AdamShand in advance if you want to come.]
Sunday, June 24th - 1:00 - 4:00pm (Browsing Lounge in the SmithMemorialCenter at PSU - Room 238)
This meeting is open to all that wish to attend. It will be similar to a normal PersonalTelco MonthlyMeeting but there will be several short talks with time for questions afterward. The first talk will be a sumation of what was discussed on Saturday. Currently confirmed talks are:
AdamShand (PersonalTelco) - Discussion on the merits of an ActivePortal system.
MattPeterson (BaWug) - Intro to 802.11 and "BaWug 'N Stuff".
CaseySpain (PersonalTelco) - Intro to the flash based mapping software in use at PdxWireless.
TerrySchmidt (NycWireless) - Reverse Intrusion Detection in Public Networks.
RobFlickenger (NoCat/OreillyNet) - Setting up a 21 mile long shot using 802.11
AndrewClapp (PersonalTelco) - Live demo of how to make a directional antenna for under $20. (So long as he's in town)
GlennFleishman (Freelance Reporter) - "3G or not 3G", and "Is MobileStar Smoking Lattes?"
Two members of PersonalTelco will be video taping the entire affair in the hopes of some good sound bites. It will then be edited and posted in Real format on the web site. If anyone wants a copy of the raw footage we will be happy to provide it for the cost of a media.
